Nepenthes spathulata x diabolica BE-3983
Nepenthes spathulata x diabolica BE-3983
Description
The female parent is the best selected clone of Nepenthes spathulata sold under BE-3174 and the male parent is a selected clone of what was then known as the “red hairy” form of Nepenthes hamata. The male parent has since been described as ‘Nepenthes diabolica’, which is a distinct species.
As can be seen from the photos, the entire shape and colouration of this cross is completely different from those made with either the Lumut or Tambusisi forms of Nepenthes hamata, which is understandable, considering how different Nepenthes diabolica is from Nepenthes. hamata.
This cross often has indumentum on the pitchers, giving them a velvety texture. The only two plants we’ve grown to full size have wings that become ruffled near the base of the pitcher and on one plant, the wings extend beyond the pitcher into the tendril. At the time of writing, we don’t know if other clones in this mix will show this interesting characteristic. The last three photos shown here illustrate both of these interesting features. The extremely large number of different clones involved with this item means that it’s unlikely that any two plants shipped in an average order will be identical clones.
Please note: the photos are representative only, please refer to our plant size guide for size information. This item is a random selection from large number of different clones, each individual plant may vary.
